Doug Bergqvist leaves Exeter City and returns to Sweden

10 February 2014

Exeter City defender Doug Bergqvist has left St James Park to sign for Ostersunds FK.

The centre-back, who has departed City on a free transfer and signed a two-year deal with the Swedish outfit, joined the Grecians in the summer and has been a regular on loan at Welling United but left Devon without making a competitive appearance for Paul Tisdale's men.

"It is with great reluctance that we have allowed Doug to leave the club, but in our current circumstances we are not in a position to guarantee that we would be able to offer him a suitable contract beyond the current season," Tisdale told the club's official website.

"Therefore it would be difficult to stand in the way of this new opportunity for Dougie and we wish him well at his new club."

The move sees Bergqvist return to a country where he grew up until the age of 10 and in doing so he becomes the third player to depart the cash-strapped club in recent weeks, following Alan Gow and Tommy Doherty.
