Sky Bet Football League Team of the Week

22 December 2014

We pick out 11 top performers and a manager from the week's Sky Bet Football League matches.

Goalkeeper: Dimitar Evtimov (Mansfield Town)

A number of goalkeepers performed well over the weekend in The Football League but we've gone for on-loan Nottingham Forest stopper Evtimov, who was on top form for the Stags when they recorded the only away triumph in Sky Bet League 2, at AFC Wimbledon.

Defender: Peter Ramage (Barnsley)

Barnsley celebrated a 2-0 victory against Leyton Orient in what was Danny Wilson's 1,000th competitive game of his managerial career, and Ramage was pivotal in that. The experienced defender led the back line superbly and guided them to a clean sheet despite the dismissal of goalkeeper Ross Turnbull. Wilson described the win as a great occasion.

Defender: Shaun Hutchinson (Fulham)

Fulham recorded one of the results of the weekend in the Sky Bet Championship, seeing off Sheffield Wednesday 4-0, and Hutchinson was a shining light. The defender scored his first goal for the Cottagers with a header on the stroke of half-time to make the score 2-0.

Defender: Rory McArdle (Bradford City)

Bradford were denied all three points against Scunthorpe United by a late Hakeeb Adelakun goal but McArdle impressed for the Bantams and scored their goal with a fine left-foot effort into the top corner.

Midfielder: Matt Ritchie (AFC Bournemouth)

The Bournemouth midfield maestro has five goals in his last five games after finding the net twice in the Cherries' 6-1 mauling of Blackpool. His first, which opened the scoring, was a low drive from the edge of the area, while his second was a fine curling strike into the top corner.

Midfielder: Luke Rooney (Luton Town)

Luton moved into the top three in Sky Bet League 2 by securing another home victory - 3-0 against Newport County - and, although a number of Hatters' players could have been selected, we've gone for their second goalscorer Rooney.

Midfielder: Jota (Brentord)

It's now four goals in as many games for Brentford's Jota after he netted in their 3-2 victory at Cardiff City. The Bees were already 2-0 up when the Spaniard struck a 33rd-minute stunner. Manager Mark Warburton believes his side deserve to be where they are, flying high in the Sky Bet Championship.

Midfielder: Charlie Lee (Stevenage)

Stevenage's match with Exeter City looked to be heading for a goalless draw but Lee popped up to earn Boro three points, and their seventh win in 11 games at the Lamex Stadium. Manager Graham Westley believes Stevenage's home ground is becoming a fortress.

Midfielder: Jay Tabb (Ipswich Town)

Despite being the smallest man on the pitch, Tabb sealed a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough with a header - his first goal in 47 appearances for the club. The victory saw the Tractor Boys leapfrog their opponents and move into the automatic promotion places. Special mentions go to Teddy Bishop, whose cross set up Tabb’s goal, and Daryl Murphy who struck his career-high 14th league goal of the season.

Striker: Reuben Reid (Plymouth Argyle)

Reid’s brace took the striker to 13 goals in all competitions. After opening the scoring, he turned provider by teeing up his namesake Bobby, to give the Pilgrims some breathing space. Front man Reid capped off the 3-0 win with a second-half penalty.

Striker: Jordan Rhodes (Blackburn Rovers)

Rhodes netted his eighth and ninth goals of the current campaign to keep Rovers in touching distance of the Play-Off places. The Scotland international struck twice in the first 19 minutes, finishing coolly for his first, before pouncing from close-range for his second.

Manager: Karl Robinson (Milton Keynes Dons)

The MK Dons manager watched as his side created history, recording a 7-0 win over Oldham at stadiummk. It was the first time the Dons had scored seven in a match, and it gave them their biggest win since their formation in 2004. The success extends their unbeaten run to 11 league games, and they now sit 2nd in Sky Bet League 1.
