Sky Bet Football League Team of the Week

1 December 2014

We pick out 11 top performers and a manager from the week's Sky Bet Football League matches.

Goalkeeper: Simon Eastwood (Blackburn Rovers)

Blackburn stole a point late on at Middlesbrough but they were only able to do so after Eastwood made a series of terrific saves, including one from point-blank range following a firm header from Boro’s Jelle Vossen.

Defender: Alfie Mawson (Wycombe Wanderers)

Loanee Mawson shone for Sky Bet League 2 leaders Wycombe Wanderers at Hartlepool United in their 3-1 victory; he was solid at the back and also found the net for his first Football League goal.

Defender: Stephen Warnock (Leeds United)

Leeds were the Sky Bet Championship’s star team over the weekend as they saw off table-toppers Derby County 2-0. Mirco Antenucci scored the goals but defender Warnock was just as vital to their success, putting in a superb performance.

Defender: Jake Cooper (Reading)

Cooper netted two back-post headers - his first senior goals - for the Royals to give them a 2-1 triumph at Norwich, in what was only his third start. Boss Nigel Adkins paid tribute to the unlikely match-winner.

Defender: John Egan (Gillingham)

Gillingham were denied all three points late on against Port Vale, drawing 2-2, but Egan impressed in an attacking sense with two goals; a low, 30-yard strike and a header from a corner.

Midfielder: Lasse Vigen Christensen (Fulham)

Fulham came from behind to see off Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 and Christensen was pivotal in their comeback. He teed up Hugo Rodallega for the leveler before diverting a Bryan Ruiz effort into the net to win it. Cottagers manager Kit Symons is convinced his players are heading in the right direction.

Midfielder: Danny Philliskirk (Oldham Athletic)

Philliskirk excelled for Oldham in their 3-0 win at Rochdale, playing a role in all three goals. He slid Daniel Johnson in for a brace and he was also brought down for a penalty, which was converted by Jonathan Forte. Latics boss Lee Johnson praised his players after the victory.

Midfielder: Luke Freeman (Bristol City)

Freeman was the man of the moment on Friday night, when Sky Bet League 1 leaders Bristol City saw off Peterborough United 3-1. The former Stevenage man opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a tidy finish on the spin before securing the points just after the hour mark.

Midfielder: Shaun Whalley (Luton Town)

Luton’s Whalley was another midfielder at the double on Saturday, as he inspired the Hatters to a comfortable 3-0 victory against Mansfield. He firstly fired in a cross-shot before a fine individual effort, cutting in from the right-hand side. Hatters manager John Still believes Whalley is starting to show the club's fans what he can do.

Striker: Paddy Madden (Scunthorpe United)

Front man Madden was a menace all afternoon for Scunthorpe at Barnsley and he netted a brace to give the Iron a precious away victory, coming from behind to triumph 2-1. The two-goal hero was hailed by boss Mark Robins after the match.

Striker: Benik Afobe (Milton Keynes Dons)

On-loan Arsenal forward Afobe was the star of the show for Karl Robinson’s men, netting a hat-trick against Colchester as the Dons ran riot to win 6-0 at stadiummk. Robinson said his team put in a 'perfect' performance

Manager: Justin Edinburgh (Newport County)

Newport extended their unbeaten away record in Sky Bet League 2 to seven games courtesy of a 3-2 victory at Carlisle United, and that moved Edinburgh’s side into the Play-Off places. After picking up the three points, the manager hailed his side's spirit.
