Christian Ribeiro earns Exeter a point against Burton

6 December 2014

Burton Albion and Exeter City missed their chance to put pressure on their promotion rivals as they fought out a 1-1 draw at St James' Park.

A win for Burton would have seen them go joint-top of Sky Bet League 2, while Exeter would have moved into the Play-Off places with maximum points.

In a first half of very few chances, it was Exeter that dominated possession, but defences were well on top.

Alex Nicholls missed the best chance of the half for Exeter when he volleyed wide after being teed up by strike partner Tom Nichols, while Alex MacDonald was off target for Burton with a wayward shot from 25 yards.

Exeter continued to dominate after the break, but they found themselves behind on the hour mark when Jacob Blythe scored from close range after a left wing cross evaded three Exeter defenders.

Burton spurned a glorious chance to kill the game off when Adam McGurk connected with MacDonald's pull back, but it deflected narrowly wide of goal with Hamon beaten.

Exeter deserved something for their efforts and it duly arrived eight minutes from time when a Matt Grimes corner was headed in by Christian Ribeiro for a deserved share of the spoils.
