Derby County have signed Stoke defender Ryan Shotton on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
Capable of playing in a number of positions across defence and midfield, Shotton will provide Rams head coach Steve McClaren with plenty of options and the 25-year-old could make his debut for the club against Charlton in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.
"He is someone who we've had our eye on for a while and he will certainly strengthen our defensive options," McClaren told Derby's official website.
"He is big, strong and has a physical presence, as well as being a good footballer and having Premier League experience to his name."
Shotton, who came through the youth ranks at Stoke, has a year remaining on his current contract with the Potters.
He has made 69 appearances for the club and scored twice since signing his first professional deal in 2007.
Derby are also looking to sign Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe on loan.
