Stevie May joins forces with Sheffield Wednesday

9 August 2014

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed the signing of striker Stevie May from St Johnstone for an undisclosed fee.

Wednesday had been reported to have matched Rotherham's £800,000 bid for May in midweek and following talks with both clubs the 21-year-old has opted for a move to Hillsborough.

May, who struck his final goal for St Johnstone in Thursday's 1-1 Europa League draw with Spartak Trnava in Slovakia, has signed a four-year contract.

He scored a total of 31 goals in 79 appearances for St Johnstone and a total of 67 goals from 118 career appearances that includes loan spells at Alloa and Hamilton.

May scored on his debut for St Johnstone aged 16 in a 4-0 win at Airdrie in 2009 and is a Scotland Under-21 international.

He is expected to be included in Stuart Gray's squad for the Owls' home Capital One Cup tie against Notts County on Tuesday.

May said on Twitter: "Delighted to say I've have signed a 4 year deal with Sheffield Wednesday. Can't wait to get started #massive"
