Saturday 30th August 2014

Morecambe's dream start to the Sky Bet League 2 campaign came to an end when they surrendered their 100 per cent record in a 2-1 loss at Tranmere Rovers, with Mark Hughes sent off after giving the Shrimps a first-half lead.

Cole Stockton had levelled for Rovers before that dismissal, and he bagged his second in the last minute of normal time to send the Prenton Park faithful wild.

Burton Albion also finished with 10 men at Mansfield Town after Robbie Weir saw red, but the Brewers held on to win 2-1 and go joint-top thanks to goals from Alex MacDonald and Callum McFadzean.

Cheltenham Town are sitting pretty at the summit on 13 points after Koby Arthur struck in the 90th minute to secure a 1-0 home victory over Hartlepool United, but Portsmouth blew the chance to reach that total when going down by the same scoreline against Newport County at Fratton Park, with Andy Sandell netting late on.

Down at the bottom, Oxford United picked up their first point of the season following a 3-3 thriller against Dagenham & Redbridge at the Kassam Stadium, with Danny Hylton bagging a brace for United.

Bury came from behind to beat struggling Accrington Stanley 2-1 thanks to strikes from Danny Rose and Danny Mayor at the JD Stadium, with the Shakers surviving the dismissal of Jim McNulty after they had edged ahead.

Cambridge United enjoyed the most emphatic win of the day in this division by crushing Carlisle United 5-0, with Issaga Diallo opening the floodgates before Robbie Simpson and Jayden Stockley both bagged a brace.

Adebayo Azeez scored seven minutes into injury time for AFC Wimbledon but it proved in vain as the Wombles went down 3-2 at home to Stevenage, with Dean Wells, Cameron Lancaster and Charlie Lee scoring for the visitors.

Marc Richards scored the only goal of the game on 89 minutes as Northampton Town edged out Exeter City 1-0, while Lewis Alessandra and Reuben Reid were on target as Plymouth Argyle were 2-0 victors against Southend United, who had Cian Bolger sent off.

Jordan Clark enjoyed a double as Shrewsbury Town prevailed 2-0 against Luton Town, with Matt Robinson given his marching orders for the Hatters, but there were no goals in the game between York City and Wycombe Wanderers.
