Sky Bet Football League Team of the Week 19/08/14 - 23/08/14

25 August 2014

After the conclusion of the weekend's Sky Bet Football League matches, we've picked out a squad of the best performers from the divisions to make the Team of the Week.

Here's our best XI and a manager from the week's Sky Bet Football League matches:

Goalkeeper: Scott Flinders (Hartlepool United)

Pools stopper Flinders produced a fine double save, the first from a penalty, to preserve his side's lead at AFC Wimbledon, which enabled them to earn their first three points of the campaign.

Defender: Craig Alcock (Sheffield United)

Alcock played the full 90 minutes of Sheffield United's two games this week, which produced their first two victories of the season. He made a goal-line clearance in Saturday's win against Crawley Town and teed up Jose Baxter for the only goal of the game.

Defender: Keith Lowe (York City)

York drew their fourth game on the bounce on Saturday and Lowe was the man who rescued a point, scoring late on against Exeter City - his second goal of the season.

Defender: Nicky Shorey (Portsmouth)

Pompey picked up two wins over the past week, in which the experienced Shorey assisted two goals from left-back. Both victories were recorded with clean sheets and Saturday's was the only one achieved by an away team in the division.

Midfielder: Matt Done (Rochdale)

What a week it has been for Done. He was pushed higher up on Tuesday to great effect, netting a hat-trick in the 5-2 win Crewe Alexandra for Rochdale's first three points of 2014/15. He maintained his place in the side on Saturday against Bristol City and assisted Ian Henderson for his equaliser which secured Dale a point.

Midfielder: Peter Murphy (Wycombe Wanderers)

Chairboys supporters had nothing but praise for Murphy on Twitter after their 3-1 weekend win at Stevenage, a match in which the Liverpudlian scored his third goal of the season. The former Accrington man is proving to be a lucky omen as Wycombe have won all three of the games he has scored in.

Midfielder: Michail Antonio (Nottingham Forest)

Winger Antonio has hit the ground running at the City Ground and he scored his second and third goals of the reason against his former club Reading on Saturday. He also chipped in with an assist.

Midfielder: Joao Teixera (Brighton & Hove Albion)

The loan signing of Liverpool midfielder Teixera is proving to be wise business by Brighton boss Sami Hyypia and the 21-year-old shone this week, scoring two goals in as many games, which saw the Seagulls record maximum points.

Midfielder: Liam Noble (Notts County)

County's Noble was another player to score two goals in as many games this week, allowing the Magpies to notch six points and move them into the top half of Sky Bet League 1. Noble's weekend goal at Port Vale was a 25-yard free-kick that was deflected into the net.

Striker: Fernando Forestieri (Watford)

Watford were comfortable 4-1 winners at home to Leeds United on Saturday and that was largely down to Forestieri, who ran himself into the ground. The attacker scored a brace and was fouled for a penalty, which his strike partner Troy Deeney converted.

Striker: Lewis Grabban (Norwich City)

The former Bournemouth striker scored three goals in two games to propel Norwich up to third with a vital six points. He scored the only goal of the game in the East Anglian derby on Saturday, scoring a smart header from close range.

Manager: Jim Bentley (Morecambe)

The Shrimps' start to 2014/15 in Sky Bet League 2 has been nothing short of remarkable and credit must go to manager Bentley for that. His side have won four from four so far and overcame Oxford United on Tuesday before winning 2-1 at Cambridge United on Saturday, to continue what is their best ever start to a season.
