Nicky Ajose leaves Peterborough Untited for Leeds United

5 August 2014

Leeds United have signed forward Nicky Ajose on a three-year deal from Peterborough United.

The former Swindon man, who was transfer listed by the Posh, has become the Sky Bet Championship club's seventh summer signing and he joins for an undisclosed fee.

The Whites' head coach David Hockaday told the club's website: "Nicky was involved with a very good group of players in the Manchester United Academy and he was one of the high flyers in that group.

"He can play up front in a number roles and he is very talented. He is a super professional and is an ideal addition to our squad."

The 22-year-old came through the academy at Manchester United and has since had loan spells at Bury, Scunthorpe, Chesterfield, Crawley, Bury and, last season, Swindon.

He was with the Robins for the first half of the 2013/14 campaign and he went on a run of 10 goals in 17 appearances, before returning to the Posh for the latter half of the campaign.

In January he scored five goals in three matches for Darren Ferguson's men, including a hat-trick against Notts County at London Road, which earned him the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month accolade.

He may be seen as a replacement for last season's top scorer Ross McCormack, who left the West Yorkshire outfit to join recently-relegated Fulham last month for a fee understood to be around £11 million.

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony tweeted: "@DMAC102: Wishing Nick Ajose all the best with his transfer to LUFC today, now done & dusted.

" For Leeds fans asking- the people at top of Leeds we dealt with were great to do business with. Smooth, efficient & quick once fee agreed!"

He is the club's second signing in as many days, following AC Milan youngster Zan Benedicic through the doors at Elland Road and he will be available for selection for United's season opener at Millwall on Saturday.
