Huddersfield Town's former manager Mark Robins said he is proud of his achievements at the club following his decision to quit last weekend.
Robins, 44, walked away from the John Smith's Stadium on Sunday after 18 months in charge.
His departure followed Huddersfield's heavy opening-day home defeat to Bournemouth after his side had been booed off the pitch.
Club chairman Dean Hoyle has since confirmed Robins had not been sacked but in hindsight should have left in the summer.
Robins said in a statement released via the League Managers Association: "I am obviously very disappointed to have left Huddersfield Town Football Club.
"In the 2012 / 2013 season the club were involved in a monumental relegation battle. Upon accepting the position of manager in February 2013 and with a mammoth effort by the players and by the staff I am proud to have led the team to retain their Championship status.
"In the 2013 /2014 season the players responded well to a change in playing philosophy whereby we moved from a direct style of play towards a passing and possession-based game.
"We started the season brightly and indeed spent much of the first half of the season in the top half of a highly competitive Football League Championship.
"Throughout the season and in line with the club's blueprint of developing homegrown players I was pleased to regularly field a number of academy-developed youngsters.
"Unfortunately injuries to key players and a lack of form meant that results and performance levels diminished in the second half of the season.
"We ended the season in a 14-year high league position of 17th, whilst we had made overall progress both on and off the field.
"I am proud of my achievements with Huddersfield Town Football Club and I would like to take this opportunity to wish Dean Hoyle and the football club much success in the future. I am now positively looking forward to my next challenge."
Robins had been appointed as Simon Grayson's permanent replacement in February 2013.
The former Manchester United and Norwich striker has also had spells in charge of Rotherham, Barnsley and Coventry.
LMA chief executive Richard Bevan said: "Mark is an excellent young manager with a proven track record.
"I am sure it will not be long before he is back in football."
Huddersfield academy manager Mark Lillis, in his third stint as caretaker-boss at the club, will take charge of the first team at Cardiff on Saturday.
