Morecambe boss Jim Bentley praised his side's fighting spirit after they came from two goals down to beat Newport 3-2 and stay top of Sky Bet League 2.
After seeing his side trail 2-0 at the break some harsh half-time words paid dividends as the Shrimps scored three times in the second period to clinch a second successive win.
Bentley said: "The first half was unacceptable to be honest and I had to say a few words at the break and make some changes.
"I changed the system and demanded more from them and I got exactly what I wanted. Kevin Ellison showed once again just what an important player he is for us with two goals while Paul Mullin produced a brilliant finish to give us the win late in the game.
"Last year we became known as the comeback kings and although I don't really want us to have that label again this season I will take it at the moment because there is a real feel good factor around the place at the moment that we want to keep.
"Two wins from two games is a great start but there is a long, long way to go yet and I know there is a lot more there from this squad. ''
Newport took the lead in the 27th minute through Adam Chapman when he reacted sharper than Morecambe midfielder Alex Kenyon to fire a right-footed effort past Barry Roche from 12 yards out.
Within a minute the visitors had doubled their advantage when Aaron O'Connor was in the perfect place to volley home from two yards out.
After a shocking first half Morecambe boss Jim Bentley brought on Mullin and Jamie Devitt and the game changed beyond all recognition as Morecambe took the upper hand.
Veteran Ellison was once again their spark as he reduced the deficit in the 57th minute with a stunning free-kick and five minutes he later he nipped in to head the ball into the empty net.
And it was Morecambe who had the final say when Mullin scored his first Football League goal with a bullet header from Jamie Devitt's pinpoint cross.
Newport boss Justin Edinburgh was understandably unhappy with his side's second half display.
He said: "We only have ourselves to blame. We were on top of the game and gave it away.
"We were excellent in the first half but in the second half some of our senior players made bad decisions in bad areas and to be fair to Morecambe they made us pay.
"Once they scored the first goal they had the momentum and we didn't cope with it at all. We need to be better than we were today but it is early days yet and we showed in patches today that we are a decent side.
"We are all disappointed to have lost the opening two games but we can't let it get on top of us and need to bounce back on Tuesday against Mansfield.''
