Cambridge United have strengthened their squad with the signing of Italian-born defender Matteo Lanzoni on a one-year contract.
The 26-year-old began his career as a trainee with Sampdoria and had loan spells with several clubs in Italy before switching to England to join Oldham last summer.
After scoring twice in 15 games for Latics, Lanzoni spent the second half of the season with Yeovil before leaving by mutual consent.
"Matteo will add to our defensive options and provide more competition for places in these positions," Cambridge director of football Jez George told the club's website.
"It is a similar situation to Michael Nelson in that we have only been able to make this signing because of the circumstances, in that Matteo first terminated his contract at Yeovil and was a free agent.
"Once we knew he was available, and Richard (Money) had identified that his attributes fitted the profile of player that we were looking for, we worked quickly to agree a deal to bring Matteo to the club."
