Derby have been dealt another serious injury blow with the news that Paul Coutts faces up to five months out with a dislocated kneecap.
Coutts suffered the injury midway through the first half of the Rams' Capital One Cup defeat at Leicester on Tuesday night after going down under a challenge by Foxes full-back Ignasi Miquel.
The 25-year-old Scot underwent a scan which revealed the extent of the damage and he will have surgery to correct the problem on Wednesday afternoon.
"It is a big blow for him and for us, he was knocking on the door to get back in the side," Derby boss Nigel Clough told reporters.
Coutts, Jeff Hendrick and James Bailey are now all sidelined and Clough, who was already looking to sign a midfielder on loan, added that the search for cover will now be stepped up.
