Bowyer delighted to keep Rhodes

3 September 2013

Gary Bowyer is delighted Jordan Rhodes is still a Blackburn player after "one or two tentative enquiries" were made for the Scotland international on deadline day.

Free-scoring striker Rhodes has struck 31 Championship goals in 48 appearances since moving to Ewood Park from Huddersfield last August, form which has caught the eye of the likes of Wigan.

There was speculation on Monday that Owen Coyle's side would attempt to bring the 23-year-old to the DW Stadium, yet Bowyer reiterated that the club's owners, the Venky's, were determined to keep hold of their prized asset.

"There was a lot of speculation about Jordan and I've been saying since I got the job he isn't going anywhere and that's proved the case," Bowyer told Blackburn Rovers TV.

"We have to thank the owners because they've stated all along that we weren't selling him.

"There was one or two tentative enquiries but it didn't get to anything more from that because the message everyone got is - he's not for sale."

Rhodes, who has scored four times in his last two games, is seen as paramount to any possible promotion charge and Bowyer added: "He's coming into form now and the manner of his four goals so far have been top draw and it's something we need if we want to get where we're trying to get to."
