Cisse staying at Rams

18 November 2013

Kalifa Cisse has agreed a new two-month contract with Derby which will see the Mali international midfielder remain with the Rams until mid-January.

Cisse, formerly of Reading and Bristol City, agreed non-contract terms with the Sky Bet Championship club earlier this month and made his debut for Steve McClaren's side in the 3-0 home win over Sheffield Wednesday ahead of the international break.

Off the back of his impressive display against the Owls and with the hectic Christmas period fast approaching, the 29-year-old will remain with Derby for a key stage of the campaign.

First-team coach Paul Simpson told the club's official website: "Kalifa did well against Sheffield Wednesday and it's pleasing that he will be sticking around for a bit longer.

"Hopefully he can carry on where he left off as well because he was certainly effective for us in the role he played on his debut."

Following spells at French Ligue 1 side Toulouse, where he began his career, and Portuguese clubs GD Estoril and Boavista, Cisse signed for then- Premier League side Reading in May 2007.

In July 2010 he joined Bristol City and after three years at Ashton Gate made a move to Major League Soccer in the USA where he turned out for the New England Revolution, who he departed by mutual consent in August after expressing a desire to return to England.
