Albrighton heads back to Villa

27 November 2013

Wigan boss Owen Coyle has confirmed Marc Albrighton will not be extending his loan stay from Aston Villa.

Albrighton's 28-day stay at the DW Stadium was due to expire on Wednesday and, speaking at his pre-match press conference for the Europa League clash with Zulte Waregem, Coyle confirmed the winger will now remain with the Barclays Premier League club.

The Latics boss had previously spoken of his desire to keep Albrighton at the club beyond his initial loan period but acknowledged that depended on Villa boss Paul Lambert's willingness to allow that.

Lambert has decreed that he wants Albrighton back in the Villa fold and, although he could not feature in the European clash on Thursday night anyway, it does deplete Wigan's options on the domestic front.

Their pursuit of Manchester United's Will Keane hit a snag last week when the promising young forward picked up a minor knock with the England Under-21s.

Wigan have a verbal agreement with the champions to take Keane on loan and Coyle said he would "be surprised if that isn't concluded in the next day or two" prior to Thursday's loan window deadline.
