Rooney hails MacDonald impact

25 March 2013

Swindon striker Adam Rooney has described the positive influence that 'brilliant' new manager Kevin MacDonald has had on the Robins squad.

The 0-0 draw with Notts County moved MacDonald's men into second place in npower League One and means the Scot has tasted defeat just once since replacing Paolo Di Canio at The County Ground.

And Rooney, who scored his fifth goal of the season in the 2-0 win over Yeovil on Tuesday, spoke about the impact made by the former Aston Villa coach.

"He has been brilliant since he came in," he told Press Association Sport.

"He has been really positive around the place and got the confidence high in the group.

"He really wants to focus on the positives in the games. He tries to encourage us to take people on, have shots and get our crosses into the box and the lads are doing that. We know we have the quality to score goals."

Rooney's opener at Yeovil saw the Birmingham loanee and his team-mates celebrate with the away fans at Huish Park and the Irishman explained the role the Robins faithful are playing in the promotion push.

"They've been excellent since I've been here," he said.

"The support really gets behind the team - it gives us a lift.

"We were disappointed for them when we drew away at Brentford because they travelled in great numbers and gave us some great support."
