Defender pens Long Clarets contract

1 March 2013

Burnley have secured the future of Kevin Long after the defender signed a new contract with the club.

The 22-year-old has agreed terms on an extension which will see him remain at Turf Moor until June 2015, with an option for a further 12 months.

Long has started the last three games after previously only managing two first-team appearances for the Clarets since arriving from Cork City in 2010.

He has made 61 league appearances during loan spells at Accrington, Rochdale and Portsmouth, but had to wait until October of this season to make his Burnley debut.

And after forcing his way into Sean Dyche's starting line-up in recent weeks, the Irishman is hoping to celebrate his new contract by keeping his place in the team

"I'm delighted to have signed," he told the club's official website. "I have enjoyed my time here and particularly since I have managed to get into the team in recent weeks.

"I had a lot to learn when I came but I have benefited from all the loan moves I have had and it's been great to have had the chance now to play for Burnley. It's what I wanted.

"I just plan to keep doing the best I can and I am looking forward to the future here now."
