The Football League Trust National Futsal Finals are set to kick off on Saturday 6th July at Birmingham Futsal Arena.
FL Trust Regional Division champions and high finishers will travel from all corners of the country to compete in the season's grand finale, where the 2013 National Futsal Champions will be crowned.
League 1 teams will be the first to showdown on 6thJuly, followed by League 2 on the 7th, and League 3 and 4 on the 14th in what promises to be an epic futsal fortnight.
In 2012, Reading walked away as the first ever League 1 and 2 Champions, and their rival Football League and Premier League clubs will be hungry for a different outcome in 2013. The introduction of League 3 and 4 tiers in the 2012/13 season is a testament to the evolution of The FL Trust Education amd Futsal programme.
Futsal, the world's fastest growing football format, showcases close ball skills, increased touches, quick decision making, creativity and tactical nous. The five-a-side game using hockey size goals, and a heavier size four ball with 30% less bounce is the only officially recognised form of indoor football accepted by UEFA and FIFA.
The Football League Trust Education and Futsal programme embraces the spirit of the game to provide sixth form students with an energised education. The popular programme is set to double in size to over 1,500 students across 65 Football League and Premier League clubs for the 2013/14 season.
16-18 years old are given the unique opportunity to learn, train, work and play Futsal. The two-year scholarship offers students a chance to find passes on and off the pitch by gaining a BTEC Diploma in Sport and an NVQ in Coaching, whilst training regularly within a professional environment. Every Wednesday, clubs compete in The FL Trust Futsal League, producing classic derby clashes, every bit as passionate as their 11-a-side counterparts.
The programme offers an array of exit routes, ranging from a university education to a career in the sports and leisure sector, both in the UK and overseas. Several students have progressed to employment within their football club, whilst several have pursued Soccer Scholarships in the USA.
As the youngsters develop academically, The FL Trust Futsal League is ensuring they advance athletically. Many players have caught the eye of the England scouts, with frequent call-ups to FA Regional Centre of Excellence Camps emerging.
