Bury boss Kevin Blackwell hailed his side's clinical finishing in a smash-and-grab 2-2 draw at promotion-hopefuls Brentford.
The Shakers managed just two efforts on goal at Griffin Park, but scored with both as the Bees had to settle for a point. Tom Soares and Nicky Ajose were the heroes for the visitors, whose mini-revival began with a win over promotion-chasing Doncaster last week.
Goals from Harry Forrester and Marcello Trotta twice gave the Bees the lead, but Uwe Rosler's Cup heroes looked edgy throughout and sections of the home crowd booed them off after they were repeatedly thwarted by Bury's well-drilled rearguard action.
But Blackwell was delighted with his side's determination to "dig in and make sure they got something out of the game". He said: "We had two clear-cut chances and took them both and you can't argue with that. We were clinical and bided our time.
"When I got to Bury we had no chance of staying up and now we are one win away from being clear of the relegation zone. That's a remarkable achievement and it's all down to the players. We knew we had to show Brentford respect and in the second half our patience paid off."
Forrester broke the deadlock just after the break, cleverly heading Shaleum Logan's far post cross back across goalkeeper Trevor Carson and in. But the visitors were level just after the hour, Soares beating Logan in a sprint to smash the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.
Trotta edged Brentford in front again two minutes later, coolly side-footing home from a tight angle. Logan was caught napping from a 76th-minute free-kick, which eventually found its way to Nicky Ajose, whose glancing header gave Simon Moore no chance.
Rosler was pragmatic about the result, while admitting his side should have been well ahead by the break.
"From a psychological aspect we are not the most experienced, but there is a lot more to come from my side," he said. "When we scored - and we have not won for a few games - the human instinct took over and we wanted to protect what we had.
"We are conceding too many goals, but I'm very relaxed as they are individual errors that we can resolve. Also and I'm not being disrespectful here, but a lot of the teams around us have been playing at their limit, but there is a lot more to come from us."
