Classy O's leave Slade buzzing

11 August 2013

Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade lauded his players as they kept up their winning start to the season with a 3-0 victory over Shrewsbury.

Three games and three wins had Slade purring with satisfaction. He said: "That was a superb performance.

"That third game within a week is always a tough one and I really felt that the first goal was going to be crucial.

"We managed to get that and that put us on our way really."

It took Orient 56 minutes to break down a resilient opposition, but once David Mooney had got the breakthrough with a header, the home side dominated.

Irishman Mooney added his second of the game with another header after 63 minutes before talented winger Moses Odubajo added a third in added time.

Slade added: "Mooney always works hard for the team and at the minute, he's in the right spot at the right time and he's playing with a lot of confidence.

Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner admitted he was well aware of the threat that Orient would pose.

"We needed to stay strong, we knew they were a threat from set-plays, that they were very direct and we would have to deal with all that," he said.

"The first goal though settled them down, it settled the crowd down and it was a pivotal in the game.
