Alex up ante for Inman

13 August 2013

Crewe are set to make their final offer for Newcastle midfielder Brad Inman after weeks of trying to land the Scotland Under-21 international.

The 21-year-old, out of contract at St James' Park, has rejected the Magpies' offer of a new contract and is hopeful of a permanent move to Gresty Road, where he spent most of last season on loan.

The Railwaymen, who have already had three bids for Inman turned down by the Barclays Premier League side, are keen to avoid taking the matter to a tribunal.

Alex boss Steve Davis told the club's official website: "Our third bid for Brad was rejected by Newcastle, so we will have to look at our options and decide our next move.

"I think we have made them a very good offer, especially for a player who has not had a lot of first-team experience. In fact it was us taking him on loan last season that gave him his first taste of that experience.

"We would still like to sign Brad and give him a chance to play competitive football, so I'm sure the club will go back in with a final offer. It won't be too much more than what we have already offered because I think we have offered what we think he is worth.

"If that is rejected then we would have to decide whether to go into a tribunal situation, where it can be risky, or we decide that we have taken it as far as we can and the deal is finished."
