Port Vale have been promoted to npower League 1 following a 1-1 draw against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.
Micky Adams' men needed just a point from their match with the Chairboys, as their goal difference coming into the weekend was far superior than the sides around them in the chase for automatic promotion, and they achieved that courtesy of Lee Hughes' strike which cancelled out Dean Morgan's first-half penalty.
The Valiants have been in basement division of The Football League since their 2008 relegation but they have challenged at the top of League 2, alongside Gillingham, for the majority of the campaign.
They will now join the Gills and Rotherham United in the League 1 line-up next term, along with one of Bradford City, Northampton Town, Burton Albion and Cheltenham Town, who are competing in the Play-Offs.
