League 2 Team of the Week

29 April 2013

Each week, the Official Football League website will bring you the Team of the Week. Produced by the Press Association, the Team's of the Week feature the eleven top performing players from each division from the weekend's matches.

Jack Lester played his final game before retiring this weekend and he bowed out by scoring his 148th and 149th Football League goals, for Chesterfield against Exeter City, and it's no surprise to see the experienced front man included in the npower League 2 Team of the Week.

The 37-year-old scored the first of his brace against the Grecians from the penalty spot just after the half-hour mark, and added another midway through the second period to hang up his boots in style.

Lester is partnered up front by Torquay United's Elliot Benyon, who was also notched a double on Saturday. The striker's two goals helped the Gulls to a 3-3 draw with Bristol Rovers - a result that secured their Football League status.

Rotherham United won promotion to npower League 1 after a 2-0 success at home to Aldershot Town and they have three players in the XI.

Johnny Mullins is at the back after scoring the opening goal, while Ben Pringle and Lee Frecklington are included in midfield, with the latter hitting the net in the dying seconds to seal the Millers' win, and promotion.

In the middle of the park, Northampton Town's Luke Guttridge is paired with Morecambe's Andrew Fleming. Guttridge, 31, coolly slotted home for the Cobblers in their 2-0 win against Barnet - which resulted in the Bees' relegation - while Fleming scored the only goal of the game at Roots Hall, where Morecambe beat Southend United.

Centre-back Will Haining is another Shrimps representative in the squad, for the role he played in keeping a clean sheet against Southend.

Michael Rose shone for Rochdale in their win against Plymouth Argyle to be included, and he came close to adding his name to the score sheet with a cracker that came back off the crossbar.

Completing the team is York City duo Michael Ingham and Chris Smith. Goalkeeper Ingham pulled off a string of fine saves to deny Dagenham and Redbridge, as defender Smith's goal was enough to give the Minstermen all three points in East London.
