Moxey praises steadfast Doyle

10 September 2012

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has paid tribute to the commitment of Kevin Doyle, confirming there was solid interest in the striker from Premier League clubs over the summer.

Doyle recently admitted "it would have been wrong" of him to seek a summer move away from Molineux following relegation from the top flight, with star names such as Steven Fletcher and Matt Jarvis jumping ship.

Boss Stale Solbakken revealed the Republic of Ireland international never once asked to leave the club, and Moxey has confirmed Doyle, 28, shunned the advances of a couple of top-flight clubs - believed to be Aston Villa and Everton - to remain in the Black Country.

"The big positive for us with Kevin was that he never fell into that category of 'I want away'," Moxey told Wolves' official website.

"There was interest in him and one or two Premier League clubs called us about him and he was aware of it. But at no point did he say 'I want to leave' and he deserves great credit for that.

"There were enquiries and they were from established Premier League clubs but Kevin said all along that he was strictly behind us and that sort of commitment is to be praised."
