Moore salutes three-goal Cassidy

2 September 2012

Manager Ronnie Moore reserved special praise for hat-trick hero Jake Cassidy after the Wales Under-21 international inspired Tranmere to a comprehensive 4-0 win against Colchester.

Cassidy scored five minutes before half-time and twice after the break, with Zoumana Bakayogo also getting his name on the scoresheet as Moore's men continued their impressive early-season form.

"Jake Cassidy's finishing was fantastic," said Moore after seeing his side go to the top of League One. "He was outstanding, while Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro was really unlucky not to get one himself.

"We were strong on the counter-attack and we have enough pace in our side to worry any defence in this division but to be on top after four games means nothing as things can change quickly in football.

"If Colchester had scored when they were on top then things might have been very different but I am never too concerned when we play at home.

"Games will come thick and fast but we will enjoy being where we are at the moment."

Colchester boss John Ward was disgusted with how his side waved the white flag after the break.

"I am extremely disappointed," he said. "In the second half we didn't stand up to Tranmere and they knocked us about and pulled us apart really.

"We started well and we could have been ahead but we didn't respond when we went behind. We went two down and lost our shape. Heads dropped and players went missing from the game.

"We talked about how we wanted to go about the game but we kept losing the ball in midfield and we looked dishevelled in the second half."
