Kennedy completes Tykes switch

21 September 2012

Barnsley have completed he signing of Tom Kennedy on a free transfer.

Kennedy, who made almost 150 appearances under Tykes boss Keith Hill during his time with Rochdale, has been a free agent since his contract at Leicester was cancelled by mutual agreement last month and moves to Oakwell on a short-term deal that runs until January 2.

The 27-year-old found first-team opportunities limited at the King Power Stadium, making just six appearances after joining in summer 2010. Last year the former Bury defender enjoyed two loan spells with Peterborough.

"It's been a strange few years so I'm happy to be at Barnsley and enjoying my football," he told Barnsley Player.

"It's been a stop-start few years. I've been on loan to Peterborough a couple of times and only played a little bit for Leicester so this is a chance for me to try and establish myself and do well for Barnsley Football Club.

"The gaffer gave me the opportunity to train here and I have had other offers but this one was a very attractive proposition and I want to play football, do the best that I can, see what happens until January and hopefully I can earn a longer deal."
