Crewe captain Luke Murphy could pen a new contract with the club by the end of the week, according to boss Steve Davis.
The midfielder, whose deal expires next summer, has been in talks with the Alex over putting pen to paper on fresh terms and Davis has been left encouraged that an agreement will be struck.
Davis told Crewe's official website: "I spoke to chairman (John Bowler) on Monday and I've got something to put to him.
"Hopefully we'll sort it out by the end of the week."
Meanwhile, Crewe were on Monday handed a huge double boost by the return to full training of Mathias Pogba and Steve Phillips.
