Portsmouth manager Michael Appleton feels he has found an effective central-defensive partnership - if he can keep them fit.
Gabor Gyepes made a swift recovery from an ankle injury to partner debutant Lubor Michalik in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat by Swindon. Appleton has got through a host of defenders already this season with Paul Connolly, Kevin Long and Ashley Westwood falling victim to the injury curse.
He said: "I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that they're still a pairing in five or six games time. "
Appleton continued: "It would be nice to have that many games with the same centre-back pairing.
"They're going to take time to gel - they've only trained together for a few days. They'll get up to match pace in five or six games.
"They're both solid enough and will win plenty of headers. People might say they lack a bit of mobility, but I think they've got enough experience to deal with that."
