Midfielder ready to fill defensive void

30 October 2012

Kingsley James is prepared to fill in at centre-half again when Port Vale take on Forest Green in the FA Cup on Saturday - should Clayton McDonald fail to recover from injury in time.

Midfielder James made the switch to defence as a second-half substitute for Vale's 2-0 loss at Northampton last weekend where he partnered Joe Davis.

And with doubts remaining over McDonald's fitness ahead of the weekend, James insists he would be 'delighted' to provide the cover once again.

"I enjoyed it to be honest. I've played there a few times, I played there at Sheffield United when I was younger, but I prefer to play centre midfield obviously," he told the club's official website.

"If people are still inured and Clayton isn't ready and the gaffer chooses to play me there then I will be delighted to play against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.

"I think Joe Davis and I could do well together. I want to be in the team every week and obviously I am disappointed when I am not in the team, but we have been playing well so I can understand the position the gaffer is in."
