Dudgeon ruled out

10 October 2012

A knee problem has prevented Joe Dudgeon from winning his first senior Northern Ireland cap.

The Hull full-back, handed his maiden international call-up last week, has been ruled out of Tuesday's World Cup qualifier against Portugal after having an injection to try and cure the problem.

The 21-year-old missed City's 1-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday with the injury and will now focus on returning to full fitness ahead of the npower Championship clash with Ipswich on October 20.

Tigers assistant manager Steve Agnew told the Hull Daily Mail: "Joe's had an injection to help the healing process and hopefully settle everything down.

"He should be available to step up his training in the next 10 days, but obviously that means he won't be able to go away with Northern Ireland.

"It'll be touch and go for the Ipswich game at this stage, he's certainly a doubt. By the time it settles down, we'll have to have another look at it before he can go back into full training."
