Carlisle hope to extend Watford striker Joe Garner's loan spell in time for the game at bottom club Bury.
Garner played the final game of his initial one-month stay at Brunton Park in Saturday's 4-0 home defeat to Notts County and boss Greg Abbott is keen to conclude an extension in time for the trip to Gigg Lane.
Teenager Dave Symington missed out on Saturday due shingles and remains doubtful, while fellow winger Jon-Paul McGovern is struggling with a recurrence of hernia trouble, which required surgery in the summer.
Abbott is expected to make several changes after his side crashed to the club's worst home defeat in nine years at the weekend, with defenders Frank Simek and Peter Murphy, plus midfielder Liam Noble all pushing for recalls.
The Cumbrians have won only once at home in the league this season, but have fared better on the road and will be chasing a fourth straight away win.
