We've got to kick on - Clark

1 December 2012

Lee Clark has urged his Birmingham side to use Friday night's 3-2 npower Championship victory over third-placed Middlesbrough as a catalyst to kickstart their season.

It was only a second home win in seven attempts for Birmingham as they ended a four-match winless run.

Clark said: "Now we have to kick on. We cannot have any of the nonsense we've had all season where we get a couple of positive results like Blackpool (a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road in midweek) and today, and then come unstuck next weekend at Wolves. We've got to kick on now."

He continued: "Talk is cheap. Too many people talk the talk - you've got to walk the walk.

"Any team who wants to be successful has to go on a run of games where there's more wins, although you can sprinkle in a couple of draws, but you've certainly got to have an unbeaten run with a lot of wins in there to kick you up the table."

Boro could certainly feel hard done by as they embarked on the 180-mile Friday night journey back to the north-east.

The visitors deserved to take a point from the encounter but were instead left to dwell on a third defeat in four games.

But manager Tony Mowbray refused to be too downbeat, both about the loss and his side's current sticky patch of form.

"We gifted the goals. It's not something I'd say we've done too often this year but I don't think they (Birmingham) have had to work too hard for the goals," he said.

"That's football. There's plenty of positives from us tonight yet we can't concede goals like that and win football matches."
