League 1 Team of the Week

31 December 2012

Each week the Official Football League website will bring you the Team of the Week. Produced by the Press Association, the Teams of the Week features the eleven top performing players from each division from this weekend's matches.

Hartlepool United were the surprise winners in npower League 1 this weekend as they beat leaders Sheffield United 3-2 at Bramall Lane.

The win was largely thanks to a brace from Steve Howard and it's no surprise the powerful striker is included in the npower League 1 Team of the Week. Ritchie Humphreys was also on the scoresheet for the Pool and he takes the left-midfield slot.

Partnering Howard up front is Coventry City's Stephen Elliot, who scored twice for the Sky Blues as they also triumphed 3-2, away at Milton Keynes Dons.

As well as Ritchie Humphreys, two other midfielders in the Team of the Week found the net this weekend. David Cotterill was on target for Doncaster Rovers in their 3-0 win at Preston North End, while Eunan O'Kane scored for Bournemouth as they continued their scintillating form with a 3-0 victory against Crawley Town.

Goalkeeper David James is the other Cherries representative in the XI. The veteran stopper kept one of five clean sheets in the division.

As well as goalscorer Cotterill, Doncaster have another player in the team - centre-half Rob Jones - who was key in keeping Preston at bay in the match at Deepdale.

Alongside O'Kane in the middle of the park is Carlisle United's Brad Potts, as he shone for the Cumbrians in their slender 2-1 home win versus Bury.

In central defence, alongside Rob Jones, is Yeovil Town's Byron Webster. The former Northampton Town defender scored the Glovers' second and all-important goal in their 2-1 victory at Fratton Park against Portsmouth.

Completing the team, in the full-back positions, is Leyton Orient's Moses Odubajo and Tranmere Rovers' Zoumana Bakayogo.

Odubajo scored a late winner for the O's at home to Walsall, while left-back Bakayogo shone for Ronnie Moore's men in their 1-0 success over Scunthorpe United.
