Girls schools on the road to Wembley

20 December 2012

We may already be approaching the half-way point in the npower Football League season, but for 72 girls schools the road to Wembley is just about to begin.

Schools from across the country have been involved in local Play-Offs to be named as the official representative for their Football League club in The npower Football League Under 13 Girls Cup.

All 72 successful schools making it through to the next round of the competition will now compete against schools representing other local npower Football League teams at the Area Finals stage in January 2013.

The winner of each of the Area Finals will go through to the Regional Finals stage in February, to battle it out against other successful teams for a place in the prestigious Grand Final to be held at Wembley Stadium in the build-up to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final on April 7th 2013.

Sponsored by npower, the npower Football League Girls Cup is a nationwide six-a-side tournament for under-13 school girls. A second competition, The npower Football League Kids Cup is open to under-11 mixed teams and sees three finals (one for each npower Football League division) played at Wembley stadium before the corresponding Play-Off finals.

The 2011/12 season saw more than 2,000 schools take part in the two competitions, meaning just under 20,000 school children were involved. All Hallows Girls School representing Aldershot Town clinched the 2012 npower Football League Girls Cup title.
