Championship Team of the Week

31 December 2012

Each week the Official Football League website will bring you the Team of the Week. Produced by the Press Association, the Team's of the Week feature the eleven top performing players from each division from the weekend's matches.

Matej Vydra was the man of the moment for Gianfranco Zola's Watford as he scored a brace to secure a 3-1 win for the Hornets away against Brighton and Hove Albion and earn himself a place in the npower Championship Team of the Week.

The Czech striker bagged his two goals in two second-half minutes and the win meant Zola's team remained in the npower Championship Play-Off places.

Partnering Vydra up top is Bristol City's Sam Baldock. The former Milton Keynes Dons striker also scored a brace, as the Robins picked up a vital three points with a 4-2 win over relegation rivals Peterborough United.

In the backline, two Middlesbrough players are included after their 4-2 home success against Blackpool. Justin Hoyte takes the right-back slot after impressing, while Jason Steele is given the place between the sticks. The 22-year-old stopper was vital for Boro - he saved a Thomas Ince penalty when the score was 3-2.

Ipswich Town's Aaron Cresswell found the net as the Tractor Boys beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 and he takes the left-back position.

In the heart of defence, Leicester City's Wes Morgan partners Blackburn Rovers' Scott Dann. Morgan helped the Foxes to a clean sheet and a 1-0 away win at Burnley, while Dann was important for Rovers as they beat Barnsley 3-1.

Hull City were 2-0 winners against Leeds United at the KC Stadium in Saturday's early kick-off and the victory was largely thanks to impressive displays in midfield from Ahmed Elmohamady and Corry Evans, and they both make the npower Championship Team of the Week.

Evans scored the first goal of the game for the Tigers, and he is alongside Bolton Wanderers' Chung-Yong Lee, who also found the net at the weekend, in centre midfield.

Completing the four-man midfield, and the team, is Nottingham Forest's Andy Reid. The left-winger was on form for Forest, firing home on the stroke of half-time, as they drew 2-2 with high-flying Crystal Palace.
