Stones signs new Tykes deal

23 August 2012

Barnsley's teenage defender John Stones has signed a contract extension keeping him at Oakwell until the summer of 2015.

The 18-year-old, a product of the club's academy, made his league debut for the Tykes in the opening-day win over Middlesbrough.

Stones signed his first professional contract last season, but such has been his progress while involved in Keith Hill's first-team squad, the club have moved to tie down their highly-rated centre-half.

Earlier this week he was called up to the England Under-19s squad for next month's friendly against Germany ahead of their European qualifying campaign.
