Holmes out for Preston
Preston North End manager Graham Westley will be unable to call upon the services of midfielder Lee Holmes for the visit of Crystal Palace.
Holmes, signed from Southampton in the summer, suffered a badly gashed knee in the weekend draw with Bournemouth when he collided with an advertising board while attempting to keep the ball in play.
North End will assess the fitness of captain John Mousinho, with John Welsh set to deputise if the former Stevenage midfielder misses out. Joel Byrom also faces a late fitness test to make the squad.
Westley could hand Akpo Sodje his first start since signing in the summer after the striker opened his account for the season with the equaliser at Dean Court on Saturday.
Crystal Palace will check on skipper Paddy McCarthy and midfielder Jonathan Williams ahead of the trip.
Experienced defender McCarthy (groin) and teenager Williams (calf) have yet to feature for the Eagles this season but are edging closer to fitness.
However, boss Dougie Freedman may opt to save the key duo for Saturday’s league game against Sheffield Wednesday with his side currently bottom of the npower Championship following three straight defeats.
Striker Glenn Murray looks set to miss out again with a knee problem.
New signings Darcy Blake, Yannick Bolasie and Andre Mortiz made their debuts in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Middlesbrough and should be involved again while Aaron Wilbraham could start after dropping to the bench on Teesside.
