Burnley have confirmed Danny Ings will see a specialist to learn the full extent of the knee injury the striker sustained at Rochdale in their final pre-season game.
Ings will undergo further assessment on the injury to his left knee after the 20-year-old was forced off in the second half at Spotland.
The news is a further blow for the player who had cruciate knee ligament surgery last summer on his right knee, which kept him out for six months.
The striker's continuing injury problems will be a concern for manager Eddie Howe, who tipped the player to make a real impact this season.
Howe took Ings from his former club Bournemouth last August but his time at Turf Moor continues to be disrupted by injuries.
