Cardiff will be without new signing Kim Bo-Kyung for their Capital One Cup first round clash with Northampton.
The South Korean, who was a member of his country's London 2012 Olympic squad, has flown home to allow the Bluebirds to complete their work permit application for the player.
The winger, 22, is not expected to be available to manager Malky Mackay until the game against Bristol City on August 25.
Mackay won't be short of attacking firepower however with summer signings Heidar Helguson, Craig Bellamy and Etien Velikonja all available for selection.
Fellow new boy Jordan Mutch will also be hopeful for a start after playing 45 minutes in the 4-1 defeat of Newcastle in Cardiff's last pre-season friendly.
Mutch was looking to prove his fitness following his comeback from a hip injury.
