Barton thrilled by debut

1 August 2012

Joey Barton was in upbeat mood after making his debut for Fleetwood in a 4-0 friendly victory over Kilmarnock.

Barton played 45 minutes for Micky Mellon's side after spending the week training with the newly-promoted club.

Barton is suspended for the first 12 games of the season and was not picked in QPR's squad for their tour of Malaysia.

The midfielder told the Cod Army's official website: "I really enjoyed my 45 minutes and it's nice to play with a team who likes to get the ball down and pass.

"There are some really good players in the Fleetwood side. It was a pleasure to be out there.

"Fleetwood can take a lot of positives after enjoying some good passages of play."

Meanwhile, Fleetwood defender Kieran Charnock has joined Macclesfield on loan until January.

The 27-year-old centre-back only started four games last season and will move to the Silkmen as they seek to make an immediate return to the npower Football League.

The former Peterborough, Torquay, and Morecambe player could make his first appearance for Macclesfield in a friendly against New Mills on Wednesday evening.
