Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round

Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round

The Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round competition gives fans the opportunity to vote for the player they feel starred in each round of the competition.

An independent football expert selects five worthy players that make up the shortlist for each round and supporters have the chance to vote for the final two.

The two players with the most votes will then be considered by a judging panel consisting of representatives from the EFL, before the overall winner is revealed.

Every fan who votes will be entered into a prize draw, with one lucky supporter getting the chance to present the Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round award to the winning player and win tickets to the final of the competition at Wembley in April.

The shortlist for the Player of the Round following the conclusion of Quarter-Finals has been revealed, giving fans the chance to vote for their chosen player.

The Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round shortlist for the Quarter-Finals is as follows:

Christian Burgess (Portsmouth)

Led the Pompey defence superbly in their Quarter-Final victory over Peterborough United. His attitude was exemplary, as were his instincts to drift back onto his own line to block a goalbound shot at 0-0. That set the foundation for Portsmouth’s 1-0 win over Peterborough.

Ollie Clarke (Bristol Rovers)

A dynamic, driving performance in the centre of midfield from one of Rovers’ own. As well as setting the tone for his side’s 3-0 win over Port Vale, he opened the scoring with a thrilling goal on the run and won his side the decisive second-half penalty.

Danny Mayor (Bury)

Just when Oxford United were threatening to level the Quarter-Final tie at Gigg Lane, up stepped Mayor with two classy finishes to ease Bury to a 5-2 win. His first was a stunner, involving a balletic turn on an icy pitch followed by a pinpoint shot into the top corner.

Alim Ozturk (Sunderland)

Ozturk has fought for a first team place in the backline at the Stadium of Light this season and has made his impression in this season’s Checkatrade Trophy campaign. Another committed performance in the Quarter-Finals earned him warm applause, as did a perfectly-judged goal-saving tackle to preserve the 2-0 win over Manchester City Under-21s.
