Sunderland’s Aiden O’Brien has been awarded the Carabao Cup Player of the Round for Round Two.
The 27-year-old fired the Black Cats into Round Three of the competition, bagging a treble against Sky Bet Championship side Blackpool as Sunderland saw off the Tangerines to progress in the Carabao Cup.
O’Brien cancelled out Shayne Lavery’s early opener for Blackpool, before adding his and the Black Cats’ second after the interval.
However, Josh Bowler levelled proceedings in the 87th minute before the forward produced some late drama, finding the back of the net in added time to make it 3-2 to the visitors Sunderland.
Seeing off competition from fellow hat-trick heroes Anwar El-Ghazi of Aston Villa and Southampton star Mohamed Elyounoussi, along with Burnley shot-stopper Wayne Hennessey, the forward secured an impressive 55.1% of the vote.
O’Brien and Sunderland’s Carabao Cup journey continues on Tuesday 21 September when they face Sky Bet League One opposition Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.
