Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Almen Abdi is the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month winner for February, after receiving 49% of the public vote.
Sprinting forward to join the attack, Abdi watched the ball drop to him on the edge of the area to strike a sweet volley that flew past Forest keeper Jordan Smith.
Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: “Unfortunately for Nottingham Forest, they seem to have been on the end of quite a few screamers in the last month or so and this volley from Almen Abdi was the pick of the bunch.
“His shot was hit with so much pace & power that it gave the keeper no chance and nearly broke the net.”
Abdi said: “I’m delighted to win this award and would like to thank everyone who voted for me.”
“It was quite an important goal for me as of course I signed for Sheffield Wednesday last summer, and so far it has been a little bit tough for me for many reasons, and this game was very important for me.
“I was put in the squad and I had to impress, and it was a pretty nice goal if I don’t mind saying so myself!”
Abdi beat off competition from Norwich City’s Johnny Howson and Burton Albion’s Michael Kightly.
Erhun Oztumer (Walsall) v Bolton Wanderers – 11th February
Walsall midfielder Erhun Oztumer is the Sky Bet League One Goal of the Month winner for February, after receiving 63% of the public vote.
The ‘Turkish Messi’ lived up to his nickname with this one. Spotting Bolton keeper Ben Alnwick off his line, he whipped home an impudent 40-yard looping volley.
Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: "Goals like this are a rare thing, but this is Otzumer’s second of the season already.
“You need the vision and the awareness to spot the opportunity but having the technical ability to pull it off is sensational.”
Otzumer, who also won the October award, said: “Goals are what win games. This one didn't win us the game but I've won an award for it again so I'm really happy.
“There were a few headers, it was bouncing around. It's come across me and I've had no options but to shoot I think.
“I've just hit it with the outside of my foot on the half volley and it's gone in the top corner. It was the beginning of the game, I think it was the fifth minute, and it's put us 1-0 up away at Bolton.
“You know, a big crowd against a very good side and it was a great feeling. I always dream about scoring those goals.”
Otzumer beat off competition from Oxford United’s Rob Hall and Bury’s Andrew Tuttle.
Paul Mullin (Morecambe) v Leyton Orient – 7th February
Morecambe forward Paul Mullin is the Sky Bet League Two Goal of the Month winner for February, after receiving 57% of the public vote.
There seemed no danger when Mullin collected a bouncing ball with three defenders around him. That was until his sweet turn and deliciously curling 25-yard shot.
Lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: “When he picks up a difficult ball, Mullin still has a huge amount to do.
“The goal displayed strength to hold his man off, skill to outwit three defenders, and accuracy and power in the strike. It was a goal good enough to win any game.”
Mullin said: “I was made up to get the goal and getting a result at Orient set up a good month for us.”
“It was one of those where nothing else was on and I managed to get a bit of space for myself so I just hit it and thankfully it went in.”
Mullin beat off competition from Crawley Town’s Josh Payne and Portsmouth’s Gary Roberts.
